Overview | Chiten started its series of adaptations of the four major plays of Chekhov in 2007. The first was the company’s version of Uncle Vanya, which was invited to the Sibiu International Theatre Festival in the same year, and also later staged in Moscow in 2011. Out of the series, this production boasts the highest number of performances. The minimalist staging features a single grand piano. While at times it invites laughter from audiences, the final scene, with Sonya left behind on top of the silent piano, kicking Vanya as she struggles to speak, leaves a violent and powerful impression. |
